Senate Dems propose bill package to address heroin crisis

By MATTHEW L. McKIBBEN

As New York's heroin addiction crisis has garnered a good deal of attention this legislative session, a number of Senate Democrats are introducing a package of bills that seek to combat the growing problem.

The bills, if passed, would enact stiffer penalties for selling opioids; expand insurance coverage for abuse treatment facilities; supply first responders with anti-overdose drug access; create community rehabilitation services and generate public service announcements via social media and mandate that insurance companies provide anti-addiction drug coverage.
