Senate, Assembly pass bill to expand speed cameras in NYC and Long Island

Two days after the Assembly majority urged the Senate to pass legislation that would allow the use of speed cameras in school zones, the Senate passed the bill Wednesday in a 51 to 9 vote.

The legislation is intended to make school zones safer by using the cameras to supplement local police departments. Last year New York City authorized a demonstration program that allowed the installation of cameras in 20 school speed zones throughout the five boroughs.
