Immigrants and advocates make the case for municipal IDs, as Bill Bratton raises concerns

As immigrants urged the City Council to create municipal ID cards, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said he has “concerns” about the program.

Bratton said it would be a challenge to create a card that can’t be tampered with and can sufficiently prove a cardholder’s identity, though he supports the general idea.

“Certainly, we would have concerns as to the validation process going forward,” he said.at One Police Plaza. “The devil is going to be in the details, vis a vis standards necessary to support appropriate identifcation."
