City Council considers 22 "Vision Zero" bills

ERIN DURKIN

A massive package of 22 bills and resolutions to crack down on dangerous drivers as part of the “Vision Zero” plan to cut traffic deaths went before the City Council Wednesday.

The legislation would reduce the speed limit to 25 miles per hour on one way, one lane streets and require the city to create seven “neighborhood slow zones” and 50 school zones with lower limits each year. A separate resolution would urge Albany to lower the limit citywide from 30 to 25 miles per hour.

Other bills would suspend a taxi driver’s license if he’s involved in a crash where someone is injured or killed and gets a summons, create black boxes to monitor taxis’ speed and location, and make it easier to yank a hack’s license based on license points.
