ALBANY >> A federal judge agreed Thursday to allow former Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno’s second fraud trial to take place during shortened court hours.

The former Republican state Senate leader’s family asked Judge Gary L. Sharpe that sessions take place between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the U.S. District Court in Albany for medical reasons. The 85-year-old Bruno had surgery in September 2013 to remove a cancerous tumor.

Sharpe, who presided over the first trial, agreed but said if he saw Bruno abusing those hours to hold press conferences, sessions would be changed back to a regular 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.
