Democrat Recchia: Indictment of GOP Rep. Michael Grimm does not ensure victory.

Tom Wrobleski

Democratic House candidate Domenic M. Recchia Jr. said that the federal indictment of GOP Rep. Michael Grimm did not make the race a slam-dunk win for the Democrats.

"It's not the win," Recchia told the Advance after speaking at the North Shore Democratic Club/Anthony R. Gaeta PAC dinner in the Staaten, West Brighton. "We have a long way to go."

Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) was indicted on 20 charges Monday, including tax evasion, obstruction and perjury, tied to the operation of his former Healthalicious health food restaurant.

But Recchia said the race would turn on issues, not Grimm's legal troubles.

Grim could generate some support from the tea party types who think that he is being picked on or targeted by the Obama DOJ. I have trouble believing that Grim will be able to overcome the issues with this indictment and think that the Democrat should be favored. The last I looked, the Cook Political Report had this race as lean Democrat

He is popular there and it is two thirds if the district. He is not popular on the Brooklyn side.
