NYS Senate Democrats not keen on softening campaign public financing bill

With reports saying Gov. Cuomo is considering different ways to get Senate Republicans to agree to a public campaign financing system before the end of the legislative session next month, Senate Democrats are wary about making too many changes to a bill they and the Assembly Democrats are pushing.

"We unveiled our campaign finance and ethics plan yesterday," said Senate Democrat spokesman Mike Murphy. "The current rumors and speculation circulating Albany do not approach that plan and would be very hard to support."

A Senate official said the Dems would likely oppose a lower matching rate. The city system provides a 6-to-1 match. There has been talk of the possiblity of a state system being as low as 2-to-1.
