Gov. Cuomo signs bill extending petition gathering period for candidates

Candidates looking to run for office this year will have an extra five days to gather petitions under legislation signed by Gov. Cuomo Friday.

Under the legislation, the petition gathering period will begin on May 29th instead of June 3rd to accommodate the Jewish festival of Shavuot. The legislation, which was approved by the Senate and Assembly this week, was sponsored by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) and Sen. Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn).
