EAST VILLAGE (WABC) -- An attacker remains on the run Monday after a vicious and deadly beating in Lower Manhattan over the weekend that was caught on camera.
The incident happened just before 9 p.m. Friday along East 6th Street between Avenues C and D in the East Village.
A 68-year-old man, identified as Ruan Wen Hui, was simply walking down the street, heading home from spending time with his grandchildren, when a man started yelling at him, unprovoked, and pushed him against a wall.

(14,498 posts)Perp made no effort to grab anything before pouncing and no effort to take the victim's belongings after he was down and out.
He did yell at the victim ( and there must have been people within earshot, since at least one woman passed by about two seconds before the attack).
Maybe he yelled, "give me your money." Maybe he yelled something else. But there was no overt attempt to rob the victim. That's significant.
It's all on the video.
