Public Advocate Tish James blasts MTA for promoting Airbnb

The newest frontier in the battle against Airbnb is taking place on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's billboards.

In a two-page letter to MTA chairman Tom Prendergast, Public Advocate Letitia James blasts the transit authority for promoting the popular apartment-sharing website -- which is mired in legal problems in New York City.

A series of advertisements at Penn Station “seriously calls into question whether this firm is facilitating or encouraging illegal behavior, including violating New York State law which prohibits New Yorkers from renting out entire apartments for less than 30 consecutive days,” James writes in a letter obtained by The News.
