Cuomo issues state of emergency after Finger Lakes flooding

PENN YAN (AP) — A state of emergency has been declared in a county in the Finger Lakes region after flash flooding caused by heavy rains forced evacuations and closed roads.

Local media report that Yates County officials declared the emergency after severe thunderstorms dumped about five inches of rain late Tuesday and early Wednesday. One of the hardest hit areas is the village of Penn Yan, on the northern end of Keuka Lake 45 miles southeast of Rochester.
