Casey Seiler, Capitol bureau chief
The Chicago high school student whose commentary on the plight of killer whales in captivity ended up uncredited in one of Sen. Greg Balls bills wont be coming to Albany for Balls May 28 Animal Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
The TU reported in February that a piece of legislation sponsored by Ball cribbed language from two sources: student Donald J. Rapiers piece on killer whales, which appeared in January on the Huffington Post, and a Los Angeles Times interview with the director of the documentary Blackfish.
After more borrowed material appeared in other measures introduced by Ball, all of his bill memos were temporarily scrapped. Balls office said the staffer responsible for the lifting was fired after the borrowing came to light.
