Powerful health care union 1199-SEIU endorses Rep. Charlie Rangel

The politically potent health care workers union that backed Mayor de Blasio early during the Democratic primary and helped push him toward victory, 1199-SEIU, on Tuesday endorsed Rep Charles Rangel in the battle for house congressional seat, the Daily News has learned.

The largest union in the city has quietly watched the tight congressional race from the sidelines this year as big players like the United Federation of Teachers and the Hotel Trades Council -- both former Rangel supporters -- have fallen in line for Rangel’s main opponent, State Sen. Adriano Espaillat.
