Mayor de Blasio remembers the war dead and promises to help New York veterans

At two events commemorating Memorial Day, a somber Mayor de Blasio said we "owe" it to the men and women who died for this country to remember their sacrifice - and also to help those who served and came back.
De Blasio said that even though the holiday is traditionally meant to honor the nation's war dead, it's also important to remember veterans who are now struggling.
"Even though it's Memorial Day to think of those we lost, its also an appropriate day
to think about what more we should, and can, and must be doing for those who have served and struggle," said de Blasio at the Soliders and Sailors Monument at Riverside Park.
The thought of homeless veterans, he said, is "an idea I don't accept" and promised to use his power as mayor to make sure no veteran remains homeless.
