De Blasio envisions bigger, better-managed Citi Bike

By Dana Rubinstein and Sally Goldenberg

In Citi Bike's first year of existence, its equipment supplier went bankrupt, and its operator lost money while dealing with challenges like glitchy software and the damage incurred by Hurricane Sandy.

But the administration has no intention of giving up on the nation's largest bike-share system.

In near-simultaneous press availabilities today, Mayor Bill de Blasio and his transportation commissioner, Polly Trottenberg, said they were hopeful for the program's future and intent on seeing it expand to other parts of the city.

"The fact is, it's been a success," said de Blasio, following a tour of a pre-Kindergarten classroom in Brooklyn. "I said all along I want to see it expanded to more parts of the city."
