New bill would slap city fines on hit and run drivers

A City Councilman is looking to slap new fines on hit and run drivers who leave the scene of an accident.

A bill to be introduced by Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Queens) would hit drivers who flee with city fines ranging from $250 to $5000.

“We have a lot of motorists fleeing the scenes of collisions,” Van Bramer said. “There’s a staggering number of accidents and collisions where there’s no prosecution.”
