NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton sacks detective who accidentally shot partner amid night of drinking
ROCCO PARASCANDOLA
The veteran NYPD detective who accidentally shot his partner in the wrist during a night of heavy drinking has been fired, the Daily News has learned.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton terminated Det. Jay Poggi, a 31-year veteran, last Friday.
Poggi, who had been assigned to the 75th Precinct in East New York, forced Brattons hand earlier this month by filing for retirement, a move that gave the NYPD 30 days to file administrative charges against him and take the case to a departmental trial.
Poggi refused to testify at that trial; an assistant trials commissioner then recommended to Bratton that Poggi be canned.
