Disgraced Queens Councilman Dan Halloran plans to pursue insanity defense

Former City Councilman Daniel Halloran is trying to delay his upcoming corruption trial by calling himself crazy, prosecutors contend.

Halloran, who is charged in a bribery plot to put Queens state Sen. Malcolm Smith on the 2013 mayoral ballot, has revealed he wants to pursue an insanity defense.

He also wants a six-month postponement of his trial, which is scheduled to begin June 2.

"In May 2012, Mr. Halloran underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor," his lawyer wrote in letter Sunday to White Plains Federal Judge Kenneth Karas.
