City Council passes 11 traffic safety bills as part of Vision Zero push

The City Council passed a far-reaching package of 11 bills Thursday to crack down on dangerous drivers and combat traffic deaths.

The bills make it a crime to hit a pedestrian or bicyclist who has the right of way, and allow the city to immediately suspend the license of a cab driver who injures or kills someone while committing a traffic violation.

They’re all part of the city’s “Vision Zero” plan, the effort launched earlier this year by Mayor de Blasio aiming to eliminate traffic deaths.
