Mayor de Blasio open to easing alternate side parking rules

ERIN DURKIN
Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday he wants to give drivers a break from alternate side parking laws despite opposition by his Sanitation Department to a bill to loosen the rules.

De Blasio called a move to let drivers return to their spots after streets have been cleaned “commendable” and said he’d work with the City Council to find a practical way to make it happen while still cleaning streets effectively.

On Monday, Sanitation officials voiced their opposition to the legislation, sponsored by Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez. They said street sweepers often have to return to the same block twice, and there’s no effective way for ticket agents to know which blocks they have and haven’t driven down.
