Kenwood Academy eyed as potential housing for undocumented children

The federal government is eyeing the former Kenwood Academy in the citys southern edge as a potential temporary housing site for undocumented children, U.S. Rep. Paul Tonkos office said.
The site is among a handful in New York being vetted by the Department of Health and Human Services to meet its obligation to house the children after they are turned over by the Department of Homeland Security, Tonko spokesman Sean Magers said.
The 73-acre property on Southern Boulevard near the Bethlehem town line, until 2009 the home of The Doane Stuart School, is under contract for sale after having been on the market for several years recently listed for $3.9 million. It is owned by the St. Louis-based Society of the Sacred Heart, which founded a convent on the site nearly 160 years ago.
Felton McLaughlin, the commercial real estate agent handling the listing for NAI Platform, said the property has been under contract for a couple of weeks but declined to disclose the buyer, citing a request for confidentiality.
