De Blasio: Move away from stop and frisk did not lead to spike in shootings

ERIN DURKIN

he spike in shootings this year has nothing to do with the decreased use of stop and frisk, Mayor de Blasio said Wednesday.

There have been 521 shootings in the first half of this year, a jump from 486 last year at the same time.

De Blasio, asked about the spike on Wednesday, noted this year’s total is still the second lowest in city history.

Clearly prepared for the question with a host of stats, he noted there were 663 shootings in the first half of 2012, 604 in 2011, and 674 in 2010.
