Lyft announces launch in Brooklyn and Queens Friday night

ERIN DURKIN

Car hailing app Lyft will launch in Brooklyn and Queens at 7 p.m. Friday, the company announced.

As we reported earlier today, Lyft plans to start operating without official permission from the city, angering regulators.

The startup made the launch official with a post on its website.

“After months of receiving unprecedented support from tens of thousands of residents, Lyft will launch in New York City on Friday at 7pm local time, with the outer boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens as our first communities,” they wrote. “Brooklyn and Queens are vastly underserved by public transit options compared to the rest of New York.
