Teachout: ‘Cuomo’s Albany Is Structurally Corrupt’

Nick Reisman

The Democratic primary campaign of Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu on Friday pounced on the latest turn in the Moreland Commission saga after The New York Times reported last night that an executive assistant to the defunct panel had received a subpoena from federal prosecutors.

“Four years ago candidate Cuomo ran on the promise of cleaning up Albany,” Teachout said in a statement, “but Governor Cuomo’s Albany is structurally corrupt. It works well for corporate campaign donors and their private interests, but it doesn’t work for the public. Governor Cuomo shut down the Moreland Commission when it went beyond a few legislators and started questioning the very way business is done in Albany. When It became a threat to those with power — including his donors — he shut it down.”

The subpoena was reportedly issued to Heather Green, an aide to the commission’s executive director, Regina Calcaterra.

And the only law that I can think of that can be used against that type of corruption is RICO.
