Schneiderman starts campaign petition drive to promote Reproductive Rights Act
Joseph Spector
Attorney General Eric Schneidermans campaign today launched a Women Deserve to Know petition drive to build support for legislation he introduced yesterday that would require employers to disclose information about which health-care services they provide in regards to their birth-control policies.
The petition drivewhich is on Schneidermans re-election websitecomes after the Democratic attorney general yesterday announced the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Actwhich would require all employers in New York to notify their employees in writing of any changes to their insurance plans coverage of birth control. The notification would have to go out 90 days before any changes are made.
Schneiderman said the measure is needed because of the U.S. Supreme Courts decision late last month in the Hobby Lobby case that allows some employers to decline to cover certain types of contraception because of religious beliefs.
