Security company with MTA contract caught underpaying guards, will pay $1.3M settlement

BY GREG SMITH , PETE DONOHUE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

A private security firm that has a big-bucks contract with the MTA was caught underpaying employees, and has agreed to a $1.3 million settlement, the city controller said.

AlliedBarton Security Services failed to give 143 workers, who were posted at NYC Transit office buildings, “prevailing” wages and benefits from October 2010 to March 2013, said Controller Scott Stringer.

The company agreed to pay the workers $1.3 million in back pay and interest; it also was hit with a $26,700 civil fine, Stringer’s office said. “Nearly 150 security guards worked hard every day protecting transit employees, while their wages and benefits stalled,” Stringer said.
