God awfull yipping and yelping in the middle of the night. Yup Ny is going to the dogs....it was suggested to shoot them but its not the season and they just seem to be curious. This is what happens when their habitat is taken away for more housing. Meanwhile no rabbits, wood chucks or other vermin seem to be in the neighborhood. I guess thats pissing off the hawks. My neigbors even drag home road kill. I think the town hall is getting bombarded with complaints...they will never learn.

(110,900 posts)If you trap, shoot or poison coyotes, all you get is more coyotes because they step up their breeding season.
I would strongly suggest keeping all pet cats indoors and not sending dogs out alone to do their business at or after twilight unless you're right there with a shotgun. Chickens have to be secured at sundown and I mean secured--the average jerrybuilt coop will not discourage a coyote.
People have managed to keep wolf-dog hybrids as companion animals, although it's a really stupid idea. No one has managed to tame down a coydog and very likely that's the hybrid that's in your area. They're extremely intelligent and utterly wild.
Competition from wolves is the only thing known to get coyotes to limit their numbers, which they do by producing smaller litters less frequently.
You'll get used to wolf howls, they're eerie, lonely and beautiful.
