Cuomo now challenging Teachout’s residency

Jimmy Vielkind

ALBANY—The Cuomo campaign is opening up another front in its attempt to knock Zephyr Teachout off the Democratic primary ballot: a court challenge to her residency.

In papers filed on Tuesday in Supreme Court in Brooklyn, two Hudson Valley residents argue that Teachout “has not been a continuous resident of the state” from November of 2009, and has maintained “indicia” of residences in other states, including out-of-state drivers licenses and a 2012 donation to the Obama campaign listing a Vermont address.

Teachout, a Fordham law professor, is challenging Governor Andrew Cuomo in a Democratic primary; New York law requires any gubernatorial candidate be a state resident for five years prior to the date of the election.
