De Blasio promises to go after ticket scofflaws

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday his administration plans to go after ticket scofflaws, promising a renewed effort to collect a mountain of debt owed to the city.
"We're very aware of that problem and we do intend to come up with some creative approaches," de Blasio said in the Bronx after a press conference on affordable housing.
"Folks owe the city money in fines that they really need to pay, [fines] that were given to them fairly and they have chosen not to pay. We take that very seriously. We're going to go after that money and I think we have some creative ideas that we'll be putting together soon on that front."
De Blasio was responding to a question about a story, reported by Capital last week, detailing nearly $1.5 billion in outstanding debt owed to the city just for violations docketed by the Environmental Control Board.
