Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Friday named in honor of a Liverpool man who was killed by a drunk driver more than three years ago.
The bill, Vince's Law, increases the penalties for individuals who are guilty of drunk driving three or more times in a 15-year period. Under the new law, the offenders will be charged with a felony and the penalties will include a maximum prison sentence of up to 7 years and a fine ranging from $2,000 to $10,000.
"Motorists who repeatedly drive drunk are a danger to themselves and everyone else on the road, and they have no place behind the wheel," Cuomo said in a statement. "Vince's Law will keep these reckless individuals out of the driver's seat and help prevent future tragedies from occurring.
