In times of crisis, de Blasio emphasizes Bloomberg

In responding to the fatal arrest of Eric Garner, which continues to be one of the most controversial issues of his tenure, Mayor Bill de Blasio has tried his best to direct the public's attention toward Michael Bloomberg.
"This is work, by the way, to undo years and years of problems. I want to emphasize that. I know it is a job everyone has
to report the news, by definition of what happened. But we are talking about things that have developed over decades in this city that have to be fixed," de Blasio said on Friday evening, following a public-housing press conference in Brooklyn.
And addressing reporters after his nine-day Italian vacation earlier this month, shortly after Garner's death, de Blasio also began by criticizing the former mayor.
"I want to remind everyone of the discussion that occurred in New York City last year, and why it happened and what we came here to do," de Blasio said in his opening remarks at the City Hall press conference. "Because for much of the previous 12 years, there was a growing tension and a growing disconnect between police and community all over our city. And that is not an acceptable state of affairs."
