‘Rent is 2 Damn High’ candidate Jimmy McMillan to face ballot challenge

Jon Campbell

Jimmy McMillan, the uniquely mustachioed Brooklyn man who stole the show at the 2010 gubernatorial debate, is trying once again to get on the ballot for the governor’s race this fall.

But he’ll have to withstand a challenge to his ballot petitions first.

Michael Welch, a former officer for the state Green Party, has filed an official objection with the state Board of Elections, challenging whether McMillan’s petition signatures live up to the standards for getting on the ballot. McMillan heads the “Rent is 2 Damn High” party, whose namesake mantra went viral when he repeated it over and over during the 2010 debate.
