Police union leader predicts impasse in contract talks

Sally Goldenberg

The head of a New York City police union said Tuesday he expects a showdown with the de Blasio administration over contentious contract negotiations, predicting an impasse and the pact to be settled with binding arbitration.

Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, said he is dissatisfied with the raises City Hall is offering his union.

If an impasse is granted, the two sides would go into mediation. If the city and the union still cannot reach an agreement, the pact would be settled with binding arbitration.
