Copy and forward: The deadline for registering to vote is October 12, 2012 in NY

NEW YORK

1. GET REGISTERED
Get registered to vote with your current name, at your current address, by 25 days
before Election Day. To be registered for the November 6th, 2012 general election,
your mail-in registration must be postmarked no later than October 12th, 2012 and
received by a board of elections no later than October 17th, 2012.

2. WHAT TO BRING
If this is your first time voting in a federal election in New York, you may have to
present ID before voting on Election Day. Identification may include (but is not limited
to):
• A current and valid photo ID
• A current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or other government document
that shows your current and complete name and current address.
If you’ve previously voted in a federal election in New York, you don’t need to bring an
ID to the polls.

3. VOTE!
Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th, 2012, and the polls will be
open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

ABSENTEE VOTING:

If you’ll be out of your county (or, if you’re a New York City resident, out of New York
City) on Election Day, you can vote using an absentee ballot. You also can vote
absentee if you: have a temporary or permanent illness or disability that will keep you
from the polls; are the primary giver to one or more individuals who are ill or physically
disabled; are a patient or inmate in a VA Hospital, or are detained in jail or confined in
prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.

You must request your absentee ballot by no later than the seventh day before
Election Day. For the general election, this would be October 30th, 2012. For the
latest information on where and how to cast your vote early, contact your local
County Board of Elections.

IN PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING:
In-person absentee voting begins as soon as ballots are available, at least 32 days
before the election. For the general election, this would be October 5th, 2012. You
can vote at the County Board of Elections office in your county, and can vote inperson
until the day before Election Day.
