R Train Service Changes Due To MTA's 14-Month Repairs

NY1News

R train riders are in for some transit headaches through October 2014, as the MTA is set to begin tonight 14 months of repairs on the Montague Tube, a tunnel which connects Manhattan and Brooklyn.

It was flooded by 27 million gallons of saltwater during Sandy, badly damaging infrastructure and equipment.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say they will fix what has been broken and prepare for future storms.

The R train will still make its regular stops, but on weekdays it will be broken into two sections.
