Judge Strikes Down City Council's Prevailing Wage Bill

Mayor Michael Bloomberg claimed victory Monday after a judge struck down the prevailing wage law passed by the City Council last year.

The mayor had vetoed the legislation that requires businesses which receive at least $1 million from the city to pay workers at a rate higher than the state's minimum wage.

On Monday, a judge sided with the Bloomberg administration, saying the measure is overridden by the state's wage laws.

The passage of the law was seen as a victory for City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.
