Westchester residents warned of coyote attacks

Web produced by Jennifer Matarese, Eyewitnesss News

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. (WABC) -- There is a warning for families in Westchester County with small children and small animals.

The warning comes after a family was victimized by a pack of coyotes.

They attacked three Chihuahua terriers, killing one of them in the family's backyard.

"She was lifeless, clearly they had broken her neck," said Kristin Porteus, the dog's owner.

And I have been seeing some strange feces laying around. Lo and behold, I googled coyote shit, and got a you tube video of coyote shit. It looks like the shit I've seen around my house. I know they are here, but didn't think so close. We have 3 cats who go out all the time. I have 2 males and one female and she sleeps inside at night, because the boys like to stay out. The boys can be mean to Amity from time to time, even though they are all fixed.

I think all kitties are going to be in at night when I go to bed. These cats would drive me crazy if I kept them inside all the time. It can't happen. Besides, I know if I were a cat I would rather take my chances outside than be trapped inside for an eternity. IMO cats belong outside just to roll in dirt, climb a tree, and chew grass when needed.

I live in a mobile home park, so it's not like there aren't things that should scare the coyotes away from time to time.

Especially for me. Meow, meow, meow, means let me OUT! Every cat I've ever had has been an indoor outdoor kitty. Hate it when they kill birds and bugs, but it's all part of being a cat. We have sheds the cats lay on at dusk and look out on the desert, and the 14 freeway a ways away. I don't want any cat dead, but rather see them killed by a coyote than a car. At least the coyote is not going to let the body rot on the side of the road.

I'm pretty sure the cats are fully aware of the coyotes. I keep the back door open so they can run inside if needed while I'm awake at night. Hopefully the coyote won't follow. I don't think my 86 year old mother could handle it.
