FIFA officials indicted in Eastern District sting

An international sting operation targeting the world soccer body FIFA brought charges against 14 defendants on two separate continents for racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering in connection with what prosecutors say was a 24-year scheme that corrupted the international sport.

The operation, initiated by U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch while she was still at the helm in the Eastern District of New York, targeted high-ranking officials in FIFA, as well governing bodies under the organization’s umbrella.
