U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand due to appear on 'The Daily Show' (Tonight!)

Washington -- U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, fresh off a visit to a Madison County farm, is due to appear on "The Daily Show" tonight for the third time in her brief Senate career.

Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is scheduled to sit down for a chat at 11 p.m. with the show's summer guest host, John Oliver, on cable network Comedy Central.

It will be Gillibrand's first appearance on the show since the Democratic National Convention in September 2012. In that appearance she talked with host Jon Stewart about the importance of the women's vote and increasing the number of women serving in Congress.

I've always thought she was terrific, and she was my congresswoman before Governor Paterson appointed her to replace Sen. Clinton.

When she first ran in 2006, President Clinton came to my little burg to campaign for her, so I got to see him in person which was quite a thrill. He really is a brilliant speaker and quite charismatic. And she won, which was a huge deal for this district (NY-20), since we've had a Republican rep for as long as I can remember. It wasn't unusual for the Democrats not to even bother fielding a candidate. And she is really loved around here, was always reelected in a landslide.

I worked for Scott Murphy, the Democrat who Kirsten endorsed to take her seat. He won the Special Election in 2009, but had to run again in 2010 and he lost to a teabagger who John Boehner himself came to the district to support. I went to the debate and it was awful. Scott voted in favor of HCR and the auditorium was full of red-shirted senior citizens who were apparently bused in to disrupt. No joke, senior citizens against health care!

Scott also was in favor of getting rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," compared it to Truman's desegregation of the military. That didn't go over well with his challenger, either, and he was ex-military.

And during the last election, we were redistricted. I knew little about the candidates since they weren't from anywhere around here, while I pass Scott Murphy's house most days and he even brought his wife and kids to campaign headquarters. I voted for the Democrat, who won, but I wasn't excited about him since he voted with the Republicans to censure Eric Holder. So it's back to business as usual in my red district.

I now have Bill Owens D-Plattsburgh, from way up in Essex County, have never seen the guy. And his Republican challenger was from Watertown in Central New York. Made no sense to me.

Chris Gibson was the teabagger that defeated Scott Murphy, the great guy who I worked for. I just heard yesterday that John Boehner was back in the district (my former district ) to support him. I know I posted about it the last time he showed up...

I must be on some list since I worked for Scott Murphy, did the same things they did, made GOTV calls and knocked on a lot of doors. He was the incumbent and I certainly wasn't going to vote for his Republican challenger, but it did bum me out that he voted with the Republicans to censure Eric Holder when the majority of the Democrats walked out.

At least you know your vote is making a difference. We had a Republican congressman for so long that I was amazed Kirsten won. A lot of the local offices here are decided by the Republican primary. Kirsten's predecessor was John Sweeney who was in office for years. It's likely you've heard of him since he can't seem to stay out of trouble. He did jail time for his DWIs.

the catcalls about her being a Republican lite gun-nut from certain corners of DU.

Those corners haven't been heard from much since she's been a Senator. And a most excellent one at that.

Seen her several times, but missed meeting her in person twice. I can't help but notice the sweet country girl she seems to be covering the intellect and iron will behind the look. I think there's a well-developed moral compass in there, too, but it's always so difficult to find in politicians.

She just might make it into the history books, and for good reasons.
