Wanted: Ideas for the state Canal system
It’s an historic feature of upstate New York and a tourist attraction but the Canal System that runs along the Mohawk and Hudson river basins is also a perpetual drain on taxpayer dollars.
Now Gov. Andrew Cuomo is starting a competition with $2.5 million in prize money to help the winners implement their ideas to improve recreation/tourism and infrastructure along the waterway.
Competitors will partner with municipalities, the Canal system or a non-profit to carry out their plans.
