There will be a 70 mile MAGA-Gras parade on Long Island this Sunday...

We already had one of these, and some boating bullshit, but this one should be interesting. If you know Long Island, you know now is prime pumpkin-picking time and the traffic jams are legendary.

So, these assholes are starting off in Northport, kinda in the middle of the North Shore, and driving about 40 miles to Riverhead, where they will amass in the empty old K-Mart parking lot. Then, they take off for the 30 or so miles to Greenport, where there is never any parking and crowds are bad enough.

I doubt any of them will at least spend a couple of bucks in the pumpkin patches or bakeries on the way. There are some excellent breweries, wineries, and at least one guy who makes some really smooth bourbon in his back yard, but I really, really don't want them drunk, too. Stupid is bad enough.

Hey! We use the same roads. But, if we could scare a few herds of deer across the road. TreasonousBastard Sep 2020 #4

the little known "Slave Cemetery" by one of the beaches in Orient.

A Quaker farmer (before Quakers decided slavery was a no-no) respected his servants and had a small plot sectioned off for him, his wife and his servants. This small cemetery has been preserved by the state.

I've got pictures (if I could find them).

I've got ancestors on L.I. since the 1600s, yet I've never been to Long Island, somehow. My ancestors were keepers of the Plum Island light in the more recent history, for 43 years ending in 1902. I've seen it from the Connecticut shore and know it's visible from the Cross Island Ferry.

Maybe in a couple of years. It's on my bucket list, now that I'm 3,000 miles away.

FWIW, Trump once wanted to buy it for a golf course. That was not a popular idea.

Preserve Plum Island is a big, great cause.

I have a copy of the log and guest book kept by my ancestors there. Extremely fascinating! It was used by them as a side line -- a sort of fishing camp. Even Grover Cleveland came to be taught fishing tips by Captain Billy. The lady of the "house" cooked for them all, and yachts of all kinds stopped over there to and from New York and Europe.
