NYC Mayor-elect Adams taps former fed prosecutors for two top legal posts

Mayor-elect Eric Adams announced Friday that he’s appointing two former federal prosecutors as his chief legal counsel in City Hall and as commissioner of the Department of Investigation.

His chief counsel pick, Brendan McGuire, served as former assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District for 11 years and headed up two key teams there — the public corruption unit and the terrorism and international narcotics unit.

“For my administration to be successful, my team in City Hall needs leaders who embody emotional intelligence, independent thinking, and calm under pressure. My lead advisors must have impeccable judgment and be willing to provide me with their candid advice about the varied challenges we will face together,” Adams said in a written statement Friday morning. “That is why I have asked Brendan McGuire to serve as my chief counsel. If harnessed and coordinated properly, the legal function of the city can facilitate meaningful change and have an enormous impact on the renewal of the city. I thank Brendan for agreeing to serve in this administration.”

Jocelyn Strauber, who also served as a prosecutor in the Southern District, will become Adam’s head of the Department of Investigation, which acts as a watchdog over the mayor and the rest of city government.

I don't know who these people are and I live on the other side of the country. But because so much of what happens in New York does influence or impact the rest of the country, I clicked to see if Daniel Goldman or Wiley was tapped on the shoulder.

Drat... hopes dashed.
