NYC policeman charged after allegedly framing newspaper photographer

By Mark Morales AND Dareh Gregorian / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
A Bronx, N.Y., cop was busted for framing a photographer, prosecutors said Monday.
The arrest stemmed from an incident last year in which NYPD officer Mark Ackerman claimed a freelance photographer for The New York Times repeatedly fired off his camera’s flash in his face while he was trying to make an arrest.
Ackerman then arrested the shutterbug for interfering with the arrest. But an investigation into the incident showed the photographer didn’t have a flash on his camera at the time and that the claim was made up, the Bronx district attorney’s office said.
Ackerman, 30, was charged with tampering with public records and making a false written statement. The NYPD said Ackerman, who was assigned to the 44th Precinct, has been suspended without pay.
