Marshals arrest rape suspect
ROCHESTER United States Marshals announced the arrest of Mario Alverado Mateo, wanted by the Monroe County District Attorneys office on a charge of rape and sodomy. The arrest was made over a month ago, but not announced until yesterday.
Mateo, 34, was arrested on July 24th 2013 at a private residence in Connecticut by members of the US Marshals Task Force. A warrant for violating his condition of parole was issued for Mateo on April 2013 after it was discovered that he had fled the Rochester area. Mateo was placed on parole in 2007 after serving a seven year sentence for pleading guilty for a burglary he committed in Rochester in 2000.
Recently, evidence collected from a crime scene linked Mateo to yet another crime. In April, 2000, it was believed that while Mateo was in the process of burglarizing a home in Rochester, he discovered a woman inside. Mateo brutally then raped and sodomized her. This crime went unsolved for several years until a DNA match linked Mateo to the crime scene. In addition to the parole violation warrant issued by N.Y.S. the Monroe County District Attorneys Office filed additional charges against Mateo for rape and sodomy.
The Rochester U. S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force began the search for Mateo in June 2013. With assistance from Monroe County District Attorneys Office and N.Y.S. Parole, Deputy U.S. Marshals were able to track Mateos location to Connecticut. U.S. Marshals in the District of Connecticut assisted in the investigation and began to close in on Mateo. On July 24, USMS personnel apprehended Mateo without incident at residence in Waterbury.
