Two charged in Hyde Park hate crime

HYDE PARK – Two men were arrested by Hyde Park Town Police on Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly screamed racial slurs as they drove past pedestrians.

The victims were walking in the area of Route 9G and East Market Street around 2:15 p.m. After they were hollered at, the car stopped and the driver got into a physical altercation with one of the victims, a 14-year-old boy.

When one of the other victims tried to break up the fight, the second man in the car got out and pulled a gun and threatened the victims.

The two suspects got back into the vehicle and fled, but Hyde Park Police tracked them down at a residence on South Quaker Lane.
