MoveOn Endorsement in NYC Mayoral Race (Original Post) LiberalElite Sep 2013 OP

Looks like you were right on de Blasio being the one to vote for. Hope he avoids a runoff. hrmjustin Sep 2013 #3

It's the proverbial kiss of death. They're on a losing streak of about seven in a row.... mayoral endorsement-wise.

Most teachers I know look to the UFT bureaucracy to figure out what NOT to do.

Di Blasio *immediately* surged. It never fails.

I thought maybe MoveOn should stay out of it - what if they endorsed Quinn?

Now I'm enjoying imagining the agita being felt in Quinn's camp as for so long she was assumed to be next in line after King Mike. However, complacency must be guarded against. She has lots of minions and they're working their sorry butts off this weekend. So, even though I HATE PHONE BANKING, I HATE HER MORE so I'll phone bank for deBlasio on Sunday. For me, phone banking is like an unpleasant medical procedure. It has to be done because the alternative is worse.

She had a big rally at the Stonewall Inn, but the rest of her appearances were very low turnout.

The only turnout that matters is the one on election [primary] day. I hate phone banking but I did it for Obama in 2004 after seeing these two little girls in the news, making calls for McCain. Now I'll do it for deBlasio. Her minions will be working the phones too and wee can't let her weasel her way into a runoff. It'll be 3 hours of discomfort calling strangers to ensure I avoid suffering 4 years of Mayor Quinn.

Her's could have been an historic candidacy: first lgbt, first woman etc.

But philosophy, ethics, honesty and democratic gov't are important too. In fact, they're MORE important than the symbolic barrier-breaking.

So really, she never had a chance. At least not in the present environment.

she'd keep saying it's a "historic" election, as if nothing else mattered. Sure it would be nice and historic and barrier-breaking to have a LGBT woman mayor. I just don't want it to be HER.

Plus she started out as a Greenwich Village lefty... further complicating the picture.

But her Speakership has been consistently a 1% Speakership.

Alas... she's running in a 99% era. Even Bloomberg wouldn't be able to buy this election.

David K. just gave $$$ to the Lhota campaign. I tend to be a pessimist but I don't think the Repugs have the chance of a snowball in Hell this time.

... way more than usual.... are *incensed* at the influence of dirty money in politics.

I tend to be a pessimist also, esp when you consider how the political and economic elite can join forces and cooperate in earnest... as they did getting Bloomberg elected and re-elected over and over.

But Lhota's pretty obscure... and it's late in the game. My guess is that if DiBlasio's the DEM nominee... or even Thompson... that the GOP will try to run against Dinkins again. Law and order, squeegie-men, grafitti. But that was a loooooonnnng time ago and there is also such at thing as going to the well once too often.

But mainly their problem is this: a lot of people have grown much more class conscious since 2009 and they are pissed at the excesses and illegalities of people like the Koch brothers.
