Bill Thompson expected to drop out of New York City mayoral race

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Bill Thompson is expected to concede the mayor's race during a tentatively scheduled 11 a.m. event at City Hall.

He is also likely to endorse Bill de Blasio as the Democratic nominee at the event, which is believed to have been organized and will be attended by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The change of heart comes as Thompson's advisors saw some of the results of this weekend's recanvassing of voting machines.

Meanwhile, work got under way Monday to start counting paper ballots almost a week after residents headed to the polls to vote in the primary.
