Deadly Queens subway station stabbing called a hate crime

Eyewitness News

NEW YORK (WABC) -- One man was fatally stabbed in Elmhurst, Queens, on Monday afternoon, and police have classified the death as a hate crime.

Authorities have charged 22-year-old Steven Torres with murder after he allegedly repeatedly stabbed 69-year-old Edward Orozco because he thought he was gay.

The attack happened Monday afternoon on a sidewalk near the entrance to the 90th Street-Elmhurst Avenue station.

Police say Torres claimed Orozco was blowing kisses to him, which set him off.
