City Moves To End Hotel Housing Program For Hurricane Sandy Victims

NY1News

The city is once again fighting to end a program that provides housing for hundreds of Hurricane Sandy victims in hotels.

City lawyers are asking a judge to lift an injunction that's been in place since May requiring the program to continue, because the Federal Emergency Management Agency will no longer reimburse the city for the rooms after the end of this month.

The city says 349 New Yorkers remain in hotels, and that the city has spent $70 million on the program so far.

City officials say if the injunction is lifted, anyone in need of housing would be referred to the Department of Homeless Services.
