NEW YORK (WABC) -- President Barack Obama on Tuesday welcomed the new Iranian government's pursuit of a "more moderate course," saying it should offer the basis for a breakthrough on Iran's nuclear impasse with the United Nations and the U.S. He signaled a willingness to directly engage with Iran's leaders, tasking Secretary of State John Kerry with pursuing diplomacy with Tehran.
"The roadblocks may prove to be too great, but I firmly believe the diplomatic path must be tested," Obama said.
The president addressed a delgation of world leaders at the UN Generall Assembly Tuesday, which created its usual traffic nightmare along the East Side.
First Avenue is closed from 42nd Street up to 48th Street, while 44th, 45th and 46th streets are closed between First and Second avenues. And Second Avenue is also closed along those cross-town streets.
